What is EFT?

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), often referred to as “Tapping” is a stress-relieving technique. It consists of gently tapping with fingertips on a sequence of acupressure points of the upper body, face and hands while being mindful of an issue that the person wishes to resolve. Tapping on these points sends calming signals to the brain allowing the uncomfortable intensity to a situation to dissolve safely and effortlessly.

What are the EFT tapping points?

There are many ways to tap. The 8 acupressure points that are most commonly used can be seen here. These points were chosen as part of an easy-to-learn sequence and can be applied to a vast range of challenges and situations.

Is there any clinical research on EFT?

EFT is recognised as an evidence-based practice by the American Psychological Association based on scientific literature and clinical trials. Click here to access research papers

Can EFT reduce stress levels?

EFT has been shown in clinical studies to lower the levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, by 43% in a single one-hour session. Tapping regulates the nervous system putting the body back into the calm state instead of being in the heightened “Fight or flight” mode.

Can EFT be used with other methods/techniques?

EFT can be used to complement other treatments and modalities. It is important to note that EFT is not a substitute for medical or mental health treatment and should be seen as complementary to and assisting medical treatment.

Please note: It is important for the person to discuss any physical or mental health concerns, with their doctor, therapist, or other qualified health practitioners. This information is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice.

When should I work with an EFT Practitioner?

There are many benefits of working with an EFT Practitioner. If a person has a complex issue (like childhood trauma, troubling memories or low self-esteem), working with a practitioner gives them emotional support, guidance, a different perspective, and usually, better results. In the case of big, serious past traumatic events, feeling safe often becomes an issue. Handling significant trauma safely and effectively requires working with a practitioner with specialist training.
